September 23 – 25
Celebrating the continuing ascent of BBQ in our ever changing food scene we have chosen this year’s theme to be: East Meats West or how Asian inspired BBQ is now becoming part of BBQ’s ever growing popularity. From Korean Bulgogi to Chinese Char Siu Pork to Japanese Yakitori, the influence of Asian inspired spices and techniques are now entering the mainstream. Although much of Eastern styled BBQ is actually grilling, the fusion with our more traditional slow smoked meats is being demonstrated by the proliferation of Asian inspired rubs, sauces, recipes and restaurants featuring Asian inspired BBQ.
Oinktoberfest has continuous music all three days, plenty of BBQ vending teams, a KCBS sanctioned Competition Saturday, a Whole Hog Competition, Outdoor Cooking Contest and the Rib Oink-Off on Sunday and an Awards Ceremony following the contests both days. So plan on coming out to celebrate the ever expanding world of BBQ with us at the Great Pumpkin Farm for Oinktoberfest, Sept. 21-23, 2018.
Viva La Barbacoa! Loosely translated means “Long Live Barbecue”. In Spanish to convey our theme for 2018 of Mexican BBQ. The tradition of Mexican barbacoa is slow roasting various meats in a brick lined fire pit in the ground. Often the meats are wrapped in plant leaves such as banana or agave to help keep the moisture in. There are regional variations across Mexico using different meats, seasonings and sauces, but the principal is the same. Low and slow cooking with a wood fire is as traditional as it gets for real BBQ. With the resurgence of Mexican food throughout the country, it only seems appropriate to celebrate their take on BBQ.
Located in Clarence, NY, a suburb of Buffalo, Oinktoberfest is the longest continuously running BBQ competition in NY and has grown and prospered to become one of WNY’s premiere events. It is a part of Western New York’s biggest family event, the Fall Festival at the Great Pumpkin Farm. We are sure you will be entertained and your appetites satisfied.
